About

Hi, I'm Tim Hutton.

I started Bird & Bear because I kept seeing the same problem at every company I worked with: analytics and data infrastructure treated as a checkbox, not a foundation. It got built once, under time pressure, and then nobody trusted it enough to make real decisions on it. So it got rebuilt, under the same pressure, with the same result, and the cycle started again.

I've spent 10+ years in digital analytics and product management, most of it in retail and luxury e-commerce, plus enterprise martech and CDP delivery. I've been the person implementing the tracking, the person analysing the output, and the person managing the product roadmap for the tools in between. That's why Bird & Bear covers all three, instead of just one slice of the problem.

These days that also means thinking hard about what "AI-ready" data actually requires. Not building AI products: making sure the data underneath them is structured and trustworthy enough that an AI tool's output is worth reading.

Background

Where the expertise comes from

  1. Kingfisher plc

Delivered analytics and data product management inside a large multi-brand retail group, navigating the complexity of shared infrastructure across brands.

  2. Higher Oak Consulting

Consulted on analytics implementation for enterprise clients, standardising the technical processes used across every account.

  3. YOOX Net-A-Porter Group

Built and ran analytics in luxury e-commerce, where data quality directly affects merchandising and customer experience decisions at scale.

  4. Tealium

Worked at the sharp end of the CDP and tag management space: the tooling brands now rely on to unify and activate their data.

  5. Decibel (acquired by Medallia)

Built and scaled an implementation team from scratch, delivering multi-platform tracking work for enterprise clients across offices in London, Madrid and Denver.

Built to grow with your business

I'm the named expert behind every engagement, and I do the work myself, but Bird & Bear is built as a company, not a freelance alias, so it can grow to bring in specialist help as the work demands it, without changing who you're accountable to.
